Youth Debunking the Gendered Arguments of Far-Right Extremism
The Project
YOU-DARE (YOUth Debunking the Gendered Arguments of far-Right Extremism) is an EU-funded research project exploring how far-right youth movements across Europe use gender narratives to shape identity, build influence, and impact democratic values.
Taking an intersectional, cross-country approach, YOU-DARE examines how these narratives are spread—online and offline—by political leaders, grassroots organisers, and influencers. The project focuses on how gender is used to mobilise young people, reinforce ideologies, and enter the mainstream.
By working with policymakers, civil society, and youth activists, YOU-DARE aims to turn research into action—developing tools and strategies to counter exclusionary narratives and strengthen democracy.
YOU-DARE Activites
Develop a critical understanding of the construction and performance of gender roles in far-right movements and their impact on democracy, EU values, and fundamental rights.
Develop innovative methods, policy approaches and tools to tackle antidemocratic narratives and tendencies, characterised by identitarian, nationalist, and extremist ideals.
Provide evidence-based insights into the role of online communities in the promotion of reactionary, identitarian, and extremist ideals, focusing on different forms of masculinity from and intersectional perspective and drawing on engagement with these communities and platforms.
Examine gender roles in political leadership styles and narratives, especially in nationalist and extremist parties, and their impact on democratic participation, decision-making and trust in governance, and propose alternative models for more democratic leadership.

A pan-European consortium of leading research institutions and organisations is proud to announce the launch of YOU-DARE (YOUth Debunking the gendered Arguments of far-Right Extremism), a new project funded by the European Commission. YOU-DARE brings together interdisciplinary expertise from across Europe to investigate how far-right youth groups construct and mobilise gender identities, and how these narratives erode democratic values and behaviours.
